Innovation with Sand
About the Name
Specially for those, who may not be deeply involved in the semiconductor industry, the question may arise why SAND MicroSystems and what is the relevance of SAND here? What does it stand for?
The basic material for most of micro-chips and also micro-sensors is Silicon, which is very cheap and well explored. Silicon is found in sand in the form of Silicon dioxide (SiO2) and this is found everywhere in the deserts and beaches and so on. Taking some sand in the hand and looking at that more precisely or under the microscope one can find the silica (SiO2), which builds also the glass.
So most of micro-chips building the computers, smart phones, radios and etc. and also the micro-sensors found every where like in cars and airplanes, are actually from sand and these are what SAND MicroSystems GmbH deals with.
